Dissemination Event In Burdur, TÜRKİYE : High
Schoolers Talk I
By Bedia TEKŞEN, Ercan Akın Fen Lisesi, Burdur/TÜRKİYE
On March 25, 2026, we, the English Language
Teaching Department of Ercan Akın Fen Lisesi—Bedia Tekşen, Nida TÜRKELAY, Hakan
SANLI, and Nejla YEŞILOVA—organized a remarkable dissemination event at Burdur
Public Library for the eTwinning project High Schoolers Talk I.
Purpose of the Event
The dissemination event aimed to share the
outcomes of our collaborative international project, highlight student
achievements, and inspire the wider community with the voices of young
learners. By bringing together educators, students, and local stakeholders, we
sought to showcase the power of cross-cultural collaboration and public
speaking in ENGLISH.
Atmosphere and Participation
The event was marked by an atmosphere of
enthusiasm and pride. High school students from Burdur, together with our
Lithuanian guest students, presented speeches on diverse topics such as
technology, soft skills, future careers, and medicine. Each presentation
reflected careful preparation, teamwork, and creativity.
Preparation
In the weeks leading up to the event, the
students prepared their speeches using the High Schoolers Talk speech
template. This guided framework helped them structure their ideas clearly and
confidently, ensuring that every presentation was both meaningful and engaging. The students also followed a dress code for the event, which added to the
formal and celebratory atmosphere of the day.
Highlights
- Student Voices: Participants delivered speeches that
demonstrated confidence, clarity, and critical thinking.
- Communication and Interaction: Beyond
the speeches themselves, the event reflected the strong bonds built
through prior collaboration. The students had already met the previous
week for a rehearsal program, where they shared their speech drafts,
discussed their topics, and exchanged ideas. This preparation not only
improved their confidence but also fostered meaningful dialogue. They
shared the backstage excitement, encouraged one another, and formed new
friendships that extended beyond the stage.
- Community Engagement: Hosting
the event at Burdur Public Library allowed us to reach a broader audience
and strengthen ties between the school and the local community.
Closing Moments
At
the end of the event, all students and their teachers received certificates and
gifts as a memory of the day. This gesture symbolized appreciation for their
hard work and created a lasting keepsake of the shared experience. The students
and the teachers also replied to a survey about the event. The results will
help guide future projects and events, ensuring continuous improvement and
growth.
Significance
This dissemination event was not only a
celebration of student work but also a testament to the value of international
projects in fostering communication skills, cultural awareness, and lifelong
learning. It reinforced our commitment to creating meaningful educational
experiences that extend beyond the classroom.
High Schoolers Talk I continues to empower students to find their voice, collaborate across borders, and inspire others through the art of public speaking.
